Baldwin's Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church

This is the original chapel built by the Baldwin family and others in 1914

HISTORY

The first Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) church in High Point, North Carolina was founded by John and Mary Baldwin, their daughter Rosetta, and a few additional individuals in 1914. It was named Baldwin's Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church after the family, and was located next to the family home on Olga Street (now R. C. Baldwin Avenue) in High Point. The church started out as a small center for worship and through the years became a place for community fellowship and development. In the early 1950s, Baldwin's Chapel SDA Church added a one-room classroom for Rosetta Baldwin to accommodate the growing student body of her school. This addition was later expanded in 1959.

In 1971, a new church facility was opened on the corner of College Drive and Leonard Avenue, near the original church building. The new facility also bore the family name, Baldwin's Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The move was initiated by Pastor David M. Jones, who pastored twice at the church. The new church also contained classrooms in the basement for Baldwin's Chapel Church School until the Rosetta C. Baldwin Educational Center opened in 1998, adjacent to the church. Church service is held on Saturdays and Pastor Alex Todd currently leads the congregation. The original Baldwin's Chapel SDA Church building was sold to Refuge Baptist Church, which served as their place of worship until 2006.
